Daily Care & Brushing Technique

Small Circular Strokes

Brush every flat surface gently in tiny circles — never a hard back-and-forth scrub.

Twice a Day, 2 Minutes

Morning and before bed — a full two minutes each time to clear plaque properly.

Replace Every 3 Months

Swap your brush every 3 months, or sooner the moment bristles start to fray.

Soft Bristles Only

Firm bristles wear down enamel and gums over time — soft is always the right choice.

General Do's

  • Rinse your mouth with water after every meal or snack.
  • Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods — leafy greens, fresh fruit and vegetables.
  • Visit Smile+ for a check-up every 6 months, even without pain — it's the easiest way to prevent bigger problems.

Flossing Matters Too

  • Floss once a day — brushing alone misses nearly 40% of each tooth's surface.
  • Glide gently between teeth in a C-shape; never snap the floss into the gum.
  • Bleeding while flossing usually means gums need more of it, not less.

Before Your Treatment

Please tell your dentist before treatment begins if you have any of the following — it changes how we plan your care safely:

Diabetes High / Low Blood Pressure Heart Disease Drug or Medicine Allergy Breathing Problems / Asthma Past Surgery Any Ongoing Medication Pregnancy

After a Tooth Extraction

Do

  • Bite firmly on the gauze placed over the extraction site for at least 1 hour.
  • Apply ice on the outside of the cheek for 15 minutes on / 15 minutes off, for 2–3 hours after the procedure.
  • Eat only soft, cold foods for the first day or two.
  • From the second day, rinse gently with lukewarm salt water after meals.

Don't

  • Don't spit forcefully or rinse hard for the first 24 hours.
  • Don't touch the extraction site with your finger or tongue.
  • Don't smoke or use a straw for at least 24 hours.

Mild swelling for 1–2 days and slight bleeding for the first 10–12 hours is normal. If bleeding or pain continues beyond that, call us at +91 70698 31919.

Common Myths vs. Facts

MythFact
Only visit the dentist when something hurts.Regular 6-month check-ups catch small issues before they become painful, expensive problems.
Professional cleaning loosens teeth.Regular cleaning removes plaque and actually strengthens gums, preventing pyorrhea and tooth loss.
Tooth extraction can affect your eyes or brain. There is no nerve connection between teeth and the eyes or brain — extractions are locally contained procedures.
Baby (milk) teeth don't need treatment since they'll fall out anyway.Untreated milk teeth reduce the chance of healthy, well-aligned permanent teeth growing in.
Brushing harder cleans teeth better.Excess pressure wears down enamel and gum tissue — gentle, thorough brushing is what actually works.
If a denture hurts, just get a new one made.Discomfort often means the socket needs to heal properly first — see us before replacing anything.

Interesting Facts About Your Teeth

Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body — even harder than bone.

Your mouth produces about 1–2 litres of saliva a day, washing away food and neutralising acids.

No two people share the same bite pattern — like fingerprints, every smile is unique.

You only get two sets of teeth in a lifetime — milk teeth and permanent — so each one matters.

Untreated gum inflammation has been linked to higher cardiovascular risk — your mouth affects your whole body.

It takes about 2 full minutes of brushing to clear most plaque — most people stop after just 45 seconds.

Eating for Healthier Teeth

Eat More Of

  • Crunchy fruit & veg — apples, carrots, cucumber naturally clean teeth as you chew.
  • Dairy — milk, cheese and yoghurt supply calcium and casein that strengthen enamel.
  • Leafy greens — rich in calcium and folic acid.
  • Nuts & seeds — low in sugar and stimulate saliva flow.
  • Green or black tea — polyphenols help reduce bacteria and plaque.
  • Plenty of water — rinses food particles and keeps saliva flowing.

Limit

  • Sticky sweets & toffees — cling to teeth for hours after eating.
  • Sugary sodas & packaged juices — feed the bacteria that cause cavities.
  • Constant snacking — frequent sugar exposure is worse than one dessert.
  • Chewing ice or hard candy — a common, avoidable cause of cracked teeth.
  • Excess citrus — acid can gradually erode enamel.
